ALASKA LAND RECORDS

A practical guide to searching Alaska deeds

A deed search works best when you begin with an owner’s name and a likely recording district. The state offers name, document-number, date, and other search options.

Choose the strongest reference

If you have a document number, use that reference first. Otherwise begin with the name as it appears on a known document. Try reasonable variations for initials, former names, or business names when needed.

Read the document

An index entry helps locate a document. Examine the actual instrument for parties, legal description, dates, and references to earlier records. Keep notes so you can follow those references without repeating searches.

Know the limits

A single deed does not establish the full current ownership or lien history. Recorded documents can require interpretation. For a transaction or a dispute, consider a title professional or attorney.
