How to find your Alaska recording district

Start with the location of the property. A mailing address, borough name, or nearest community can help you orient yourself, but confirm the recording district using Alaska DNR’s district resources.

Use the official map

Open the state’s Find Your District page and locate the property using its map. If the location is close to a boundary or you only have a partial legal description, ask the Recorder’s Office before assuming which district applies.

Write down your starting details

Keep the district name, owner or business name, approximate transaction date, and any document number or legal description together. These details help you choose an appropriate search.

If a search is empty

Recheck the district and spelling. An empty result is not proof that no record exists. Use the official office for help with older records or unclear locations.

Not sure which district to choose?
